Now in its second year, Nando’s Music Exchange kicks off with a return to the Roundhouse for a day of workshops, collaborative recording sessions and artist mentoring. Providing a platform for creativity and exchange of music and culture, 20 aspiring young musicians from the Roundhouse will be brought together with five students from the Campus of Performing Arts (COPA) in South Africa. Mentoring the attendees will be award-winning rapper Little Simz, UK-chart topper Example and South African artist Toya Delazy.
With the South African music scene continuing to gain global recognition, Nando’s Music Exchange inspires talent from both countries through a network of established artists, regular workshops and partnerships. As well as enjoying unrivalled access to mentors, workshop attendees will be challenged to create a track using their beats, riffs and sounds.
Nando’s Music Exchange will later hit the road with selected participants performing at Nando’s Rule the Roost festival activation over the summer. In addition, Nando’s will release another short documentary with Noisey exploring the exciting female rap scene in South Africa.
Last year’s Nando’s Music Exchange was hosted by Example and Stormzy alongside South African DJ/producer Muzi, and award-winning beatboxer Reeps One.
Talking about the event, Stormzy said; “It was an inspiring and humbling experience. With so much undiscovered talent in the UK, the day highlighted the need for more opportunities to provide a stepping-stone for aspiring artists.”
