Kanye West has defended his recent fashion show after facing criticism from the fashion industry.

West debuted Yeezy Season 4 at New York’s Roosevelt Island at the start of New York Fashion Week this month.

The show attracted controversy even before its launch after West put out a casting call for “multiracial women”.

Critics lambasted West’s runway show after several models fainted from heat exhaustion and some threw their shoes aside while walking.

Responding to the criticism in an interview with W magazine, West said: “I wouldn’t say that anyone in fashion is on my side. I don’t think there’s anyone on my side.”

“I’m not saying I like that. I’m saying that to this date they do not understand who I am. They will not understand until after I’m gone. I am misunderstood and there is no one in fashion that’s on my side,” he added.

West also revealed which films he identifies the most with, name-checking 2012 Disney flick Wreck-It Ralph, the 2010 animated flick Despicable Me and the 2006 drama Pursuit of Happyness.

The ‘Life of Pablo’ rapper went on to compare himself with Will Ferrell’s character in the 2003 Christmas comedy Elf.

“I’m the elf that’s Will Ferrell, that’s too big for his hands to make the toys,” he said.

Meanwhile, a fan tried – and failed – to climb Kanye West’s infamous floating stage during a recent date on the rapper’s Saint Pablo Tour.
