The super-villain movie has crossed the $500 million barrier in 13 days

Suicide Squad is currently on course to match Deadpool‘s total global box office takings.

The super-villain movie starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto has taken 13 days to cross the $500 million (£380 million) mark worldwide, roughly the same amount of time as Deadpool took to crack $500 million earlier this year, Deadpool reports..

Deadpool ended up topping out at a shade over $780 million (£590 million) worldwide. Though that tally was considered a major victory for Deadpool, which was made on a relatively tight budget of $60 million (£45 million), it would be less impressive for Suicide Squad, which is believed to have cost around three times as much to produce.

It has previously been reported that Suicide Squad will need to gross between $750 million and $800 million globally to break even for Warner Bros., once marketing costs and other factors such as cinema chains’ cut of box office takings have been factored into the equation.

Meanwhile, Die Antwoord‘s Yolandi Visser has accused Suicide Squad director David Ayer of “jocking” their style in the movie. Posting a video showing alleged similarities between herself and Margo Robbie’s character Harley Quinn, as well as Jared Leto’s Joker and her bandmate Ninja, Visser claimed that Ayer had contacted the group before making the movie and that members of the cast later revealed that he referenced them during shooting.
