Avery has played live with Kevin Parker’s band since 2013, when he replaced former Pond frontman Nick Allbrook as Tame Impala’s touring bassist. Avery, who was also born in Freemantle, Perth, was a founding member of Pond, often filling in on drums.
The musician has today announced that he will be releasing a new solo album. As Pitchfork reports, Avery has signed to the label Anti- and will release a full-length record sometime next year.
To announce the project, Avery has shared its first single, ‘C’est Toi’. The strong ballad is accompanied by a new video that sees the 28-year-old playing a grand piano while a young couple explore the sights and sounds of New York City.

Avery has said in an accompanying press release that ‘C’est Toi’ is “a love song I wrote about when I fell in love the last time.”
